The main differences between floor tiles and wall tiles lie in their characteristics and intended use:

  1. Floor Tiles:
    • Thickness: Floor tiles are thicker and more robust to withstand foot traffic, furniture, and appliances.
    • Texture: They often have added texture to reduce slip risk.
    • Durability: Designed for heavy foot traffic and loads.
    • Weight: Heavier due to their thickness and durability.
  2. Wall Tiles:
    • Thickness: Wall tiles are thinner and more delicate.
    • Smoothness: They have a smoother surface.
    • Use: Not recommended for underfoot due to slipperiness when wet.

Remember these distinctions when choosing tiles for your project! 😊

  1. Ceramic Tile:
    • Made from semi-coarse clay.
    • Kiln-fired at temperatures between 1,800 and 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Absorbs more water than porcelain.
    • Usually glazed for water and stain resistance.
    • Suitable for indoor use only.
  2. Porcelain Tile:
    • Made from fine kaolin clay.
    • Fired at higher temperatures (2,200–2,500 F).
    • Absorbs less water than ceramic.
    • Denser and harder.
    • Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

In summary, porcelain is more durable and water-resistant, while ceramic is softer and less expensive. Choose based on your project needs!

  1. Clean tile and stone with a damp sponge or soft cotton cloth using a small amount of tile friendly cleaner and warm water.
  2. Make sure the cleaner is neutral, non-acidic and non-alkaline. Heavy alkaline cleaners leave residues that build up over time. These residues cling to the tile surface and attract dirt.
  3. For extremely dirty floors, use a full strength cleaner appropriate for ceramic and porcelain surfaces.

  1. You should not use everyday soaps or detergents on tile and stone. Such cleaners leave a film which dulls the surface and promotes mildew, making your tile look cloudy, dull, and just plain dirty!
  2. You should not use an acidic or ammonia-based cleaner because it could affect the colour of the grout. Acid-based cleaners will etch polished marble and dull the surface. Re-polishing marble is an expensive and time consuming task that only professionals can do.
  3. You should not use bleach or vinegar as they are both acids. These liquids can cause costly damage to grouts and even dull some surface finishes on natural stone.

Remember, consistent care and maintenance will help your tile surfaces stay beautiful for years to come!😊

In most cases, wall tiles aren’t appropriate for the floor, for a variety of reasons. They may be more slippery or less water-resistant than a floor tile needs to be. Although most wall tiles can’t be used on the floor, most floor tiles can be used on the wall, as long as the wall can bear the weight of the tile.  It is best to seek a recommendation from a master or product manufacturer.

As long as you know the dimensions of the walls or floor that you are tiling, you can work out the amount of tiles that you need. A standard tile calculator will work out the number of tiles or boxes required, taking into account the spacing for grout. You can also choose to add an additional 10% to account for breakages and cut-outs.

If you’re considering revamping your space using our fantastic selection of floor and wall tiles, make sure to utilize our convenient tile calculator. It will assist you in determining the precise quantity of tiles required.
